Formal Training - need Vs desire (Saturday, 08 October 2011 By Guruvantage Team)
Formal Training...need Vs Desire??
In my meagre professional career spanning for over a dozen years, I have been often caught debating to myself the efficacies of corporate trainings. Recalling those days when me and my brethren used to squirm at the thought of attending day-long training sessions – particularly when an impending client deliverable is within eye-ball distance!! It hurts even more when you are made painfully aware that the client deliverable is to be still met (what??? even after a day-long training session on ‘effective soft skills’???) – That you didn’t want in the first place!! Those days always made me wonder whether the so-called training sessions are really a desirable need??
Not to hint that all training sessions were as ‘effective’ – there were also times when a deliverable has been met (...with fair success) and there is a general lull-in-the-air post the project hangover and all that you would need in the office is a uninterrupted quality time with your facebook avatar. Here goes the *pop* since there is another training session now planned for skill-set enhancement!! Though that might be a good idea to attend, but the trainer would feel as if this time he has a deliverable within eye-ball distance ...quickly rushing through the course content without as much as pausing to take in a breath! ..left wondering again...whether this time the training was really a needed desire ??
